Strategic Planning

The CSUDH Strategic Plan, “Going Far Together,” positions the university as a socially just, equitable, and inclusive model urban university, and serves as a blueprint for the institution going forward. Creating the plan was a collaborative process, incorporating the voices of students, staff, faculty, community members, alumni, local businesses, and educational institutions. The plan is rooted in CSUDH’s historical commitment to social justice and equity. This commitment is supported by five strategic themes, shown below.

Statement from the Strategic Plan Co-Chairs

We have chosen "Going Far Together" as the theme for CSUDH’s strategic plan because we recognize that the Toro Family and the communities of which it is a part can only truly thrive when we all live, work and learn in equitable and culturally engaging and sustaining environments. We must create an environment that affirms the dignity, value, and belonging of all of our community members. Therefore, "going far" in terms of creating and sustaining a socially and educationally just environment requires that we learn and work collaboratively, collectively, and intentionally towards this vision.

This strategic plan is anchored by the pillars of Learn Together and Thrive Together. The Learn Together pillar represents our collective effort to be a learning organization. We will create multidisciplinary learning communities where students, faculty, staff, and administrators work together to understand complex challenges and cultivate innovative, equity-centered solutions.

The Thrive Together Pillar signifies our commitment to go beyond just a focus on graduating students or getting a degree: we want to create an affirming campus environment where every student, faculty, staff, and administrator is supported to meet their personal and professional goals and empowered to serve as change agents for a more just and equitable world.

In many ways, these two pillars, which have equity and social justice at their core, are mutually informing: the more we learn and grow together, the more likely we are to thrive. The more fully that we thrive, the more willing and able we are to learn and grow both individually and as an institution. Collectively, the pillars, along with the strategic commitments they support, are designed to reveal how we will intentionally work together to fulfill our vision of becoming a model urban metropolitan university. The strategic commitments outlined above—with their emphasis on addressing the historic and educational injustices in our society by fostering academic excellence through equitable access to culturally engaging, equity-centered high-impact experiential learning opportunities and support systems; attracting, retaining, and equitably promoting faculty, administrators, and staff who represent a diverse range of cultures and experiences and are on the cutting edge of their fields; and building and maintaining mutually beneficial partnerships with our local and global communities, schools, and businesses—are intended to ensure that we thrive together in a community of care, and that in so doing, we serve as the national model for a socially just, equitable, and inclusive metropolitan university.
